Mooroopna Children and Families Centre (MCFC), was funded by the Department of Education and training which is part of the Shepparton Education Plan. It is the only integrated school and early years setting in the Goulburn Valley which accommodates both students and the wider community to promote well-being and community engagement.
Our priorities are to make sure there is a consistent approach to children’s learning as they move from early learning through to school. We have worked in partnership with our community to provide services that will support the needs of our children, such as Maternal Child Health Nurse, Paediatrician, Play Therapist and are privileged to partner with Our Place. MCFC works in partnership with Our Place to encouraged strong partnerships with our families and the community.
We support learning through play and use appropriate intentional teaching methods in our activities and experiences. This allows the children to explore, discover, negotiate, take risks and solve problems which will enable them to develop strong foundations for lifelong learning.
All of our educators hold qualifications ranging from Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Education, Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Bachelor of Early Childhood.
A learning journey involves educators, children, families and the community joining together to provide a high quality and innovative educational program, achieving best outcomes for children.
We recognise and respect the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn. We value their knowledge and culture, which is reflected in our everyday practice. Our program is inclusive and is based on acceptance of, and respect for diversity of each child and their family regardless of ability, gender, race, language, culture or economic status.
We follow the guiding principles of the National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework V2, encompassing the values of Belonging, Being and Becoming. We have embedded the ‘Funds of Knowledge’ approach to enhance learning for each child. Funds of Knowledge refers to the accumulated bodies of knowledge and skills that each child and their family brings to our learning environment. We use this information to create an inclusive and relevant educational experiences that is designed to suit individual milestones and learning goals.
Our educators are positive role models, guiding behaviour by example and interacting with children in a way that encourages learning as a pleasant and enjoyable experience. We believe that all children are capable and confident learners. All children learn at different rates, in different ways and at different times. Each child can, at their own pace develop independence, resilience, responsibility, respect and self-identity. Through reciprocal relationships, social connections and encouragement in a supportive environment with nurturing and compassionate educators.
Our single-point entry makes it easier for families and the school community to access shared facilities and programs. This integrated design fosters connections through shared activities, events, and incursions, ensuring a smooth transition from kindergarten to school. Our Continuity of Learning initiative unites Foundation and early year’s educators to create a seamless and consistent learning environment, aligning early learning and school systems. As part of the "Our Place" site, we and our partners are committed to collaboration, supporting children's learning, engaging families, and actively identifying and connecting families with needed services.
MCFC is committed to providing a warm, caring, play-based, and positive learning environment for everyone involved. It is essential that our educators continually build their professional knowledge and enhance their practices by engaging in both internal and external professional development, furthering their education and skills. This ongoing reflection ensures that each child receives the highest quality of education and care.
