Dancing with the stars has been a hugely popular TV show in Australia and people from Shepparton were delighted when local Shepparton Dancer Amanda Garner was thrust into stardom when she partnered Grant Denyer to win the title in 2006. Amanda followed up in 2007 as a winner again, this time with Jamie Durie on her arm. It was a highlight of Amanda’s dancing career which began as a seven year old when she commenced at the Excell dance studio alongside the other 5 members of her family. She advanced as a top dancer and experienced a previous highlight of her career when she partnered her brother Jeremy to make the final of the Australian Dance sport championships. She also appeared on the U.K. TV show “Strictly come Dancing”.
Being crowned the winner of series 4 of Dancing with the Stars was a life changing experience and set Amanda on her way to dancing internationally including as a feature dancer on Royal Caribbean Cruise ships.
She appeared in the renowned “Burn the Floor” touring show in China and the USA. Amanda was judged 2nd in the Las Vegas championships in the USA. She also won the Victorian Championships in 2012.
Shepparton dance students have had the opportunity to learn the art of Ballroom Dancing from our International star as she has taught at the Excell studio through the years. She has also trained many debutante sets to perform at Shepparton Deb Balls. Amanda is still very much involved in dancing as she is a resident of the city and teaches at the Excell studio as well as enjoying married life and her 1 year old child.
The Garner family has represented Shepparton wonderfully on the world dancing stage and the City of Greater Shepparton now recognises Amanda Garner as a roll of honour member of the Sports Hall of Fame. Well done Amanda.
