Cultural Diversity

Greater Shepparton is proud of its cultural diversity and the strength it brings to our region.

Shaped by a long history of migration dating back to World War I, our community has grown into a vibrant and inclusive place where people from many backgrounds live, work and contribute.

Today, Greater Shepparton is home to people from more than 30 nationalities who speak over 50 languages. This diversity is a core part of our identity and enriches our economic, social, civic and cultural life. View our Community Profile for the latest ABS statistics.

Our region continues to be an attractive destination for new arrivals. This is due to a combination of factors including established community networks, a welcoming reputation, employment opportunities, and the balance of regional lifestyle with access to services and industry, particularly in agriculture.

Greater Shepparton City Council is committed to fostering a community where everyone feels respected, supported and able to celebrate and share their culture. We actively promote inclusion, cultural expression and community connection, recognising that strong, diverse communities contribute to a more resilient and sustainable region.

We will continue to work with our community to celebrate diversity, support multicultural communities and strengthen Greater Shepparton as a place where everyone belongs.
