An example of just some of the community projects that received funding through Greater Shepparton City Council's Matching Grants program over the years.

Shepparton Canoe Club - Junior Outrigger Paddling and Safety - "We used our grant to purchase equipment and training for instructors. We now have 15 enthusiastic junior paddlers with more juniors waiting to join. We have equipment available so they can try the sport at no cost. The benefits are healthy family activities at a minimal cost with children and adults getting out in the fresh air and exercising. A great community use for Victoria Lake."

Exchange Church - Mainly Music Project - "The Mainly Music team is excited to see families enjoy the use of music, rhythm and other music related activities. Mainly Music is a great opportunity for children to interact with their parent/caregiver each week at the Kialla Park Community and Sport complex. Children have developed skills to enhance their early childhood education and parents have benefited from the opportunity to connect with other parents and build friendships. The grant enabled the group to purchase sound equipment instruments and props for the activities."

This will provide ongoing benefits to all of our members and also increase the opportunity for other community groups to use the venue. It will also allow us to host more shows and rehearsals."

Murchison Pre-School - Secret Garden - "We received a Community Matching Grant to upgrade our run-down outdoor area with an exciting new play area. Parents, grandparents, staff and children worked together to design, create and will now maintain the garden for the benefit of the children in Murchison."

Any one for some wild duck pie, rabbit pasta, soup, cake and dessert, maybe followed by some Shedders Ginger Beer? Tat men are excelling in the kitchen."

Tatura Community House - Monster Garage Sale - "We received a Community Matching Grant to hold a Monster Garage Sale in Tatura. What an amazing success we had 56 Garage Sales on the day. Businesses and service clubs were involved and many people came from out of town to enjoy this great community event!"

Tatura Men’s Shed – First aid for Seniors - The Tatura Men’s shed provided an affordable First Aid Course for Men’s sheds in the Greater Shepparton area with the aim of making Men’s sheds a safer place. 16 participants from Tatura Men’s Shed, Dookie Men’s Shed, Shepparton Men’s Shed, Mooroopna Men’s Shed and the Tatura Senior Citizens club successfully completed the Level 2 First Aid Course.

Byrneside Public Hall Reserve - Upgrading Water and toilet facilities - The dedicated Byrneside Hall Committee aim to maintain and improve the hall for the enjoyment of their community. The water supply for the hall is derived solely from rainfall and the main tank was riddled with holes. With the grant a new tank was installed and new toilet cisterns and toilet seats.

Dookie Men’s Shed - We used the Matching grant monies, along with other grants and our own weekly fees, to advertise the Shed, the meeting times and activities; produce photocopies of building projects; bought material for making articles and bought some equipment. This has helped us develop a constant source of income through the production and sales of the Indian Myna traps.

Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation – CALD Resources for the Community - The project purchased and made available to the community to borrow, 64 DVD’s in Hindi and 26 DVD’s in Arabic for adults, and 31 bi-lingual children’s picture books in Albanian, Chinese, French, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Somali and Urdu.

Happy Halloween at Dhurringile - This community initiative utilised their Community Matching Grant to purchase items for the hall which can be reused for future events. Dedicated community members attended several working bees to make decorations and decorate the hall. The night was a huge success.

Mad Cow Mud Run - Kids Event - Over 400 children participated in the inaugural Mad Cow Mud Run for Kids Event. The Community Matching Grant was used to purchase materials for the obstacle course and the delivery of the event. It will now be included as an annual event on the long weekend in March.

Murchison Tennis Club – Accessible Drinking Fountain Project - The addition of the accessible drinking fountain is a wonderful asset not only to the Murchison Tennis Club, but also to all who utilise the walking track along River Road. There are many people who regularly use this track and can now rehydrate and fill their drinking bottles, or give their animals a drink while ‘out and about’. Local tradesmen have donated materials and labour to assist in the completion of this project.

Shepparton South Girl Guides – Camping Program - The Shepparton South Girl Guides have been able to replace the original canvas tents with new tents, and efficient cooking and light equipment. This will enhance their camping experience.

Rotary Club of Tatura - Community Art Show Nursing Homes Day - The object of Nursing Homes Day, as part of the Tatura Rotary Club’s Annual Art Show, was to dedicate the day to enable residents of nursing homes to enjoy an outing and reconnect with the local community. Residents and their carers were treated to morning tea, a guided tour of the art exhibits by community volunteers, and a 2 course luncheon. Feedback was that residents thoroughly enjoyed their day out and talked about it for days.

Undera Primary School – Linking the Generations - Past students, grandparents and past members of the school community welcomed the opportunity to be a part of the Linking the Generations project. Current students interviewed past students about their time at Undera Primary School and produced the Generations Undera PS 2013 video. Two community festivals, and a recipe package contributed to the success of linking the generations in Undera.

Christmas for Those Alone - Christmas for Those Alone provides a free Christmas lunch for anyone who is alone or unable to have a Christmas meal with family or friends. The project relies entirely on public support and goodwill. 35 Volunteers join with the small Committee of 12 to provide the lunch for over 300 community members.
