Services, Support and Funding
The Council provides a number of information and support services to recreational and sporting organisations in Greater Shepparton.
This includes an organisational contacts directory, and regular newsletters on key issues in sport and recreation. Council also provides funding, technical and administration support to more than 30 Council committees and a number of crown land reserve committees.
Council also provides linkages with other state and government bodies whose role is to support recreation and sporting groups. This includes information on where funds may be accessed for various projects.
Committees of Management
Council acknowledges the important role performed by Committees of Management of the many sporting facilities and community facilities in the municipality.
Council aims at assisting Committees of Management in their operations of the facilities by providing a Reactive Maintenance Funding grant, this grant is allocated annually. The grant is a contribution towards the cost of reactive and minor maintenance at the facility under their control. Reactive Maintenance can be described as reasonably unforeseeable minor repairs or maintenance works to physical infrastructure, examples include;
- replacement of broken windows
- minor plumbing works
- replacement of safety signage
Reactive Maintenance does not include;
- operational costs for power, gas or water
- administration costs
- purchase of equipment
Sport Development and Facility Planning
The Shepparton Sports Precinct Master Plan was adopted by Council on 3 February 2009.
The Shepparton Sports Precinct is located at the northern gateway to Shepparton and is one of the region's most significant and utilised sporting facilities. Analysis of sample precinct usage data indicates that collectively Greater Shepparton residents make over 450,000 visits per year as participants, players, officials, administrators, supporters, spectators and family members.
