‘Dob in a Hoon’ Program
Residents are encouraged to ‘dob-in’ drivers who engage in street racing, burn outs, fish tailing and other dangerous hoon activity.
Greater Shepparton City Council supports Police in their campaign to stamp out hoon driving and encourages the community to telephone the hotline to report inappropriate driver behaviour.
From 1 July, 2011 amendments to the Road Safety Amendment (Hoon Driving) Act gave police the power to immediately impound hoon vehicles for 30 days. Repeat offenders will also face court where they risk losing their vehicle for a further three months, with a minimum 45 days, or having their vehicle seized permanently. The news gets worse for dangerous drivers, with the range of hoon offences also increasing to include repeat drink, drug and unlicensed driving, as well as overloading a vehicle with passengers.
You can ‘dob in a hoon’ by phoning the confidential Crime Stoppers Hoon Hotline on 1800 333 000 or reporting it online through the Crime Stoppers website. Information collected through the hotline enables Victoria Police to gather intelligence to target repeat hoon offenders and focus on particular areas.
