Bat Night returns to Tatura in 2026

Thursday 2nd of April, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to announce the return of the popular Bat Night event, with RiverConnect, the Cussen Park User Group and expert guest speakers hosting an interactive evening on Friday 17 April from 5pm to 8pm, at Cussen Park, Tatura.
The event will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about these fascinating flying mammals and the important role they play in our ecosystems. Attendees will hear how bats catch their prey, learn about the different sizes and species, and discover the similarities bats share with humans.
Featuring in Council’s Activities in the Park program, Bat Night is a free, family‑friendly event where children can enjoy bat‑themed activities and view local bats up close. The Tatura Lions Club will provide a free BBQ, while the Goulburn Murray Landcare Network will bring along their Mini Beasts to keep the whole family entertained.
Bats play a vital role as pollinators and seed dispersers, with both Microbats and Megabats, also known as Flying Foxes, found locally.
Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said Bat Night was a great opportunity for the community to connect with local wildlife.
“Cussen Park is home to a wide range of native wildlife, and events like Bat Night help residents and families better understand and appreciate the species that live alongside us. You can get up close, learn more about different species, and discover the important role bats play in controlling insects and supporting healthy ecosystems,” she said.
All activities commence at the Cussen Park rotunda at the Ross Street entrance. This event is free, but bookings are essential for catering purposes. Book now online or by calling RiverConnect on 5832 9700.
