Council’s Activities in the Park program recently held a Boot Swap event on Saturday 26 April at Shepparton Sports City, aimed at supporting young athletes and families in need of football or soccer boots.
In Summary
The event attracted more than 300 participants, including children, parents and supporters. Throughout the day, families brought in gently used boots of all sizes to exchange for other pairs that better fit their growing players.
More than 300 pairs of boots were donated, reflecting the community’s generosity and strong support for local grassroots sport. Families without boots to swap were still able to select a pair for free, ensuring no child left without suitable footwear.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the event is a reminder of how small actions can make a big difference.
“Sport plays a huge role in our community, and this event is a great example of how we can come together to ensure all kids have the chance to participate,” he said.
“Families are doing it tough, and something as simple as a pair of boots can make a big difference.”
Council staff were on hand to help with fitting and sizing, making sure each child walked away with boots that were comfortable and appropriate.
Council’s Director Community, Louise Mitchell said these initiatives are a fantastic way to support local families and the environment.
“We are so fortunate to have groups like Shepparton Junior Soccer Association and Kick it Forward behind us,” she said.
“Thanks to this collaboration, families got the help they needed and perfectly good boots stayed out of landfill. It was a real team effort and something we are proud to lead.”
Council would like to thank the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association for their support on the day and Kick it Forward for their donations.
This successful initiative has laid a strong foundation for future community-led activities that encourage participation and help keep young athletes playing.
