Greater Shepparton City Council’s Resilience in Recovery team is calling for young creatives aged 12 to 25 to participate in ‘Disruption’, a bold new immersive exhibition coming to Shepparton this October.
In Summary
Free art sessions will be taking place across the region over the coming weeks and months, with participants given the opportunity to unleash their creativity and produce original pieces inspired by the theme ‘Disruption’. Selected artwork will then be featured in an exciting upcoming immersive exhibition.
The art sessions, with all materials provided, will be taking place as follows:
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged young community members to participate and take advantage of this opportunity.
“We invite young community members to get involved and attend the art sessions. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to showcase your creativity and become part of this legacy project,” he said.
“We are looking forward to seeing the creativity of young people on a subject so relevant to our region; natural disasters and emergency response. Close to three years on from the October 2022 floods, it is important to look at how far we have come and to keep educating ourselves on the way we prepare for and face emergencies.”
Council’s Manager Emergency Management and Resilience, Belinda Conna, said the team was very eager to see the artwork by young community members take shape.
“We are excited to see how young people explore the theme and then watch it all come to life through the magic of animation,” she said.
This project runs alongside Greater Shepparton’s First 72 Hours campaign, which reminds us that when the unexpected happens, being prepared makes all the difference. The First 72 Hours is a collaborative initiative involving multiple councils and emergency response agencies, focused on helping people create their own emergency plan and be ready when it counts.
“The exhibition will move beyond simply showcasing disruption, to highlight the practical steps that we can all take to prepare for emergencies and strengthen our community’s resilience,” Ms Conna added.
Young creatives that can’t attend the art sessions but would like to participate in the exhibition, are encouraged to submit their artwork through Council’s Shaping Greater Shepp website here. The site also contains more information on how to participate, the theme, as well as art mediums and specifications. Submissions close Monday 11 August 2025.
About Disruption
Disruption is an immersive art experience that transforms the vision and creativity of young people across Greater Shepparton into something truly extraordinary.
The artwork will be selected by a panel of young people and then digitised and brought to life through large-scale animated projections, created by a professional animator with major exhibition experience.
If you are aged 12 to 25 and would like to be part of the selection panel, you can apply via the Shaping Greater Shepparton website.
This activity is funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments in response to the October 2022, December 2023 and January 2024 flood and storm events which impacted Victorian communities in Greater Shepparton. The project will be delivered by Greater Shepparton City Council, in collaboration with youth organisations in the region; Headspace Shepparton, OLLY (Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project), Uniting and GV Libraries.
