Celebrations to mark Australia Day will take place throughout Greater Shepparton on Tuesday 26 January 2021.
Ceremonies, events and entertainment will be held in Shepparton, Mooroopna, Tatura, Dookie, Arcadia, and Murchison.
Celebrations around the region will invite members of the community to come together in a safe manner to reflect, respect and celebrate our nation.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe, encouraged all residents to celebrate what it means to be Australian.
“Australia Day is a day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our history,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“Over the past year our community and the nation has faced fire, flood, drought and the coronavirus pandemic. Australia Day presents us with a welcome opportunity to reflect on our recent challenges, respect those who put others before themselves and celebrate our nation’s resilience and unity.
“We also understand Australia Day is not a day of celebration for all. The day provides an opportunity to acknowledge, learn and understand our nation’s past and to reflect on the history, traditions and cultures of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
“Australia Day is a day for people from every walk of life to celebrate the things we love about our country.”
