Greater Shepparton City Council together with La Trobe University will be delivering the Connecting Students with Small Business Program and are looking for local businesses to be involved.
The program sees second and third year La Trobe University students working with local businesses to gain experience in operating social media channels and marketing activities.
Students enrolled in the internship will undertake social media strategy training and once complete will be paired with a local business operator to conduct their social media activities for a set period.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Seema Abdullah said this was a great avenue to upskill students and assist local businesses in rolling out effective marketing through social media.
“Now more than ever our local businesses have witnessed the importance of a digital presence to connect with consumers and provide services beyond the front doors,” Cr Abdullah said.
“This program is a great opportunity to help resource our local businesses and improve their digital presence, increase promotion of their business through marketing activities and receive ongoing digital mentoring.”
Greater Shepparton Business Centre has opened an Expression of Interest for local small businesses to participate in the Social Media and Marketing Internship. Businesses will have until Monday 27 July to sign up.
Head of La Trobe Shepparton Campus Elizabeth Capp said the partnership would provide valuable experience.
“We are grateful to Council and the Greater Shepparton Business Centre for providing this outstanding opportunity for our students to undergo a marketing internship that will not only benefit from strategic social media training, but also gain valuable on-the-job experience,” Ms Capp said.
Students will attend the workshop in July and placement will commence from 3 August to 16 October.
