Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the contract for Stage 3 of the Vibert Reserve Pavilion redevelopment works at Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
Shepparton based company Crow Constructions Pty Ltd were awarded the contract to complete major expansion works, totalling more than $3.7 million.
The redevelopment works will see Vibert Reserve Pavilion expanded to accommodate the Shepparton South Community Centre and improved building amenities for the sporting clubs, along with car park and landscaping works.
These works form Stage 3 of the Vibert Reserve Pavilion redevelopment, with Stage 1 completed in 2009 and Stage 2 in 2013.
Since the completion of Stage 1 and 2, further improvements to the sporting pavilion were identified as being required. This is due to the increase in sporting clubs using the pavilion along with the need for the South Shepparton Community Centre to relocate from its current Service Street premises. Work was undertaken in 2020/21 to develop a suitable design in consultation with user groups for Stage 3 of the works.
Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said the relocation of the South Shepparton Community House to Vibert Reserve would ensure the community had regular access to a purpose built space for skill development, social activities and support.
“The redevelopment will better meet the needs of sporting groups and other users of the pavilion with the construction of more spacious social room facilities, a kitchen/kiosk and bar with the ability to cater for functions and meetings,” she said.
“The relocation will also provide adequate parking and facilities to ensure improved access.”
Works are anticipated to commence in September and take around 11 months to complete. Stage 3 of the project is partly funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Cr O’Keeffe said Council were pleased to award the contract to a local company and to see these works get underway.
“Redevelopment of the Vibert Reserve Pavilion will ensure the space remains a functional venue for local sporting clubs and community groups to utilise and enjoy,” she said.
Council wishes to thank design consultants Cohen Leigh Architects, CAF Consulting and other contractors who tendered for the construction work for their interest in the project.
