Greater Shepparton City Council noted the ten successful applicants of the 2022/2023 Greater Shepparton Heritage Conservation Grants Program at the December Council Meeting, with more than $90,000 (including GST) in funding awarded.
The Greater Shepparton Heritage Conservation Grants Program is an initiative of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, which was established in 2012. The Committee provides advice to Council on how to conserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of Greater Shepparton, and acts as an advocate for all cultural heritage matters within the region.
The Grants program was established in 2017 to promote conservation works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, while being respectful of the places’ significance. In previous years, works which have been funded through the program have provided benefits for both the owners of the properties and the community.
A total of $80,000 (excluding GST) was available in funding for this round, with Council receiving 28 applications. A judging panel was formed to assess the applications and provide recommendations to Council, with ten applications approved to the total of $91,706.50 (including GST).
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the quality of applications received was extremely high.
“Greater Shepparton contains a wide variety of cultural heritage places of local, regional and international significance,” he said.
“Greater Shepparton's cultural heritage is an important part of our community. It adds character, appeal and interest to our region. Completion of the works funded through these grants will assist in the conservation of places of heritage significance across Greater Shepparton.”
Heritage Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Greg James, congratulated each of the successful applicants.
“These grants are an important program which help ensure the conservation and upkeep of our heritage listed properties around the region,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing this funding put to good use around Greater Shepparton.”
