Greater Shepparton City Council noted the seven successful applicants of the 2023/2024 Greater Shepparton Heritage Conservation Grants Program at the December Council Meeting, with more than $39,000 in funding awarded.
The Greater Shepparton Heritage Conservation Grants Program is an initiative of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, which was established in 2012. The Committee provides advice to Council on how to conserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of Greater Shepparton, and acts as an advocate for all cultural heritage matters within the region.
The Grants program was established in 2017 to promote conservation works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, while being respectful of the places’ significance.
In previous years, works which have been funded through the program have provided benefits for both the owners of the properties and the community, including structural repairs, painting and roof upgrades.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the quality of applications received this year was extremely high once again.
“Greater Shepparton contains a wide range of cultural heritage places of local, regional and international significance,” he said.
“The region’s cultural heritage is an important part of our community, adding character, appeal and interest. Completion of the works funded through these grants will assist in the conservation of places of heritage significance across the entire municipality.”
Heritage Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Ben Ladson, congratulated each of the successful applicants.
“These grants are well received by the community each year. The funding helps to ensure the conservation and upkeep of our heritage listed properties, and we look forward to seeing it put to good use around Greater Shepparton,” he said.
