Greater Shepparton City Council proudly provided funding to nine local community groups for life-saving defibrillators and accessories, as part of Community Safety Month earlier this year.
Held annually in October, Community Safety Month aims to remind people that we all have a role to play in making our communities safer. It does this by promoting awareness about a broad range of safety matters including crime prevention, personal safety and staying safe during an emergency.
As part of Community Safety Month, Council’s Community Development team invited Community Planning Groups to express interest in receiving funding for defibrillators and accompanying accessories. The funding was part of the Community Plan Implementation Fund, with the specialist stream focusing on the contribution of funds for defibrillators, or updating batteries and pads for use in their community.
A total of nine community groups shared in a funding pool of $13,800, including Toolamba Recreation Reserve, Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, Bunbartha Community Centre, Katandra West Community Centre, St Vincent De Paul, Mooroopna, St Alban’s Anglican Church, Mooroopna, Larsen Reserve Tallygaroopna, and Dookie Bowls Club.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council was extremely pleased to provide this funding to the community for an important cause, one which could potentially save someone’s life.
“Council participate in Community Safety Month each year and we aim to work with partner agencies and community to raise awareness around community safety priorities,” he said.
“These new defibrillators have the potential to save someone’s life, which is an incredible thing. We know each of the successful communities will appreciate this new lifesaving equipment available across the region.”
