Greater Shepparton City Council is calling on passionate young people aged 14 to 25 to join the FReeZA Youth Committee. The volunteer committee will organise music, cultural, and arts-based events for local youth in Greater Shepparton.
In Summary
The FReeZA program, supported by the Victorian Government will offer young people the opportunity to plan and deliver exciting events while developing valuable personal and professional skills.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged young people to get involved while highlighting the importance of community support.
“This initiative provides an incredible opportunity for our young people to step up, be creative, and shape the future of youth focused events in our community,” he said.
“Participants will gain real-world knowledge in event planning, teamwork, and leadership, while creating something meaningful for their peers and the wider community. I encourage everyone who is eligible to apply.”
The committee empowers young people to take charge of events that reflect their passions, from live music to arts and cultural showcases. Members will gain hands-on experience in areas such as budgeting, marketing, and logistics, with opportunities to network with industry professionals and peers.
Council’s Director Community, Louise Mitchell, said that the initiative will not only provide valuable opportunities for young people but also help shape events that truly resonate with them.
“This committee is a platform for young voices to be heard, giving them the tools to turn their ideas into events that matter, while also giving us a better understanding of their wants and needs,” she said.
“We hope to receive applications from young people with a diverse range of interests, ensuring there is representation from every corner of our community.”
Council will host an information session for interested young people on Wednesday 12 March 2025 at Council Offices, 90 Welsford Street Shepparton from 4.00pm - 5.30pm.
Applications open Monday 3 March and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 23 March 2025. Council encourages applications from young people of all backgrounds, including First Nations and culturally diverse communities.
