Greater Shepparton City Council has noted the financial and performance statements of its 17 Community Asset Committees (CAC) for the 2023–24 financial year at the July Council Meeting.
In Summary
These volunteer-led committees manage a range of Council-owned community facilities and recreation reserves across the municipality. Their responsibilities include overseeing bookings, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting community access to essential gathering spaces. Each committee operates under delegation from Council, in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020.
Every year, CACs are required to submit financial and performance statements to the Chief Executive Officer. These reports detail the committee’s activities, achievements, challenges, and future goals, ensuring transparency and ongoing alignment with Council objectives.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, thanked the committees for their dedication and acknowledged the important role they play in supporting local communities.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have 17 active Community Asset Committees supported by more than 120 committed volunteers. Their efforts ensure our halls, recreation reserves and community centres are maintained, improved, and made available for locals to use and enjoy,” he said.
“This annual reporting provides valuable insight into the important work happening at the grassroots level across our region.”
Throughout 2023–24, the committees achieved a range of positive outcomes, including installation of a new electronic scoreboard at Dookie Recreation Reserve, upgraded lighting at Katandra West's netball and bowling clubs, and community events such as Dhurringile’s successful Neighbour Day celebration. At Tallygaroopna Memorial Hall, preparation for the hall’s centenary included restoration of honour boards and improvements to internal infrastructure.
Council’s Community Wellbeing department continues to provide essential support to CACs by attending Annual General Meetings, assisting with reporting requirements, and offering training to build the capacity of volunteers. The department also works closely with committees on promotion and member recruitment.
During the 2023–24 financial year, six new members were appointed across various committees, while two resigned, bringing the total number of CAC volunteers across Greater Shepparton to 120.
A full table of key achievements, challenges and future goals from each of the 17 Community Asset Committees is available on the Greater Shepparton City Council website. View the full report by tapping here.
