Council Support Package to fund major upgrades for Greater Shepparton

Greater Shepparton City Council is grateful to receive $3 million in funding through the Victorian Government’s Council Support Package to fund major upgrades for the region, including to the Shepparton Sports Stadium and VISY Stadium.

In Summary

  • Council has received $3 million from the Victorian Government’s Council Support Package for major upgrades in the region.
  • Funding will enhance the Shepparton Sports City Precinct, including Shepparton Sports Stadium and VISY Stadium, improving connectivity, accessibility and user experience.
  • Key upgrades include roof and facade improvements, new change spaces, safety enhancements, and expansion of the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path between Gemmill’s Swamp and KidsTown.
  • All projects are expected to be completed by 30 June 2026, aiming to deliver lasting benefits for residents and visitors and encourage active living within the community.

The $3 million funding will enable enhancements to improve connectivity, accessibility and amenity to the Shepparton Sports City Precinct, upgrades to the Shepparton Sports Stadium and VISY Stadium to enhance user experience, and an expansion to Route 2 of the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path between Gemmill’s Swamp and KidsTown.

Works at the Shepparton Sports Stadium will include roof upgrades, facade and external signage upgrades, and upgrades to the change spaces and accessibility to service major events. The works at VISY Stadium will include upgrades to the roof, kitchen and foyer, upgraded mezzanine facilities and sporting equipment, new change spaces and safety improvements to the indoor courts.

“These are some really exciting short term stadium upgrades which will help improve accessibility for local competition, user groups, and major events as we work towards the larger redevelopment at the Shepparton Sports Stadium,” Mayor, Cr Shane Sali said.

Shepparton Sports City will also see upgrades to improve safety for users accessing the facility, including construction of connecting footpaths across the precinct, and amenity improvements including additional tree planting and landscaping. The works will enhance the precinct and ensure safe travels through the area during peak sporting season.

“Greater Shepparton City Council is grateful for these funds that enable us to deliver lasting benefits for the community. We know how important sport is for our wellbeing and these upgrades to the Shepparton Sports City Precinct and our two stadiums, are welcome additions to improve the facilities for residents and visitors,” Cr Sali said.

“The expansion of the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path between Gemmill’s Swamp and KidsTown is also a great result to improve the connectivity around our region. Our shared paths are well used by families and visitors as they encourage active living within the community for walking, running and cycling.

“We look forward to seeing these projects get underway, with all expected to be delivered before 30 June 2026.”

The Council Support Package is part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Investment Package to support local government organisations to undertake projects that will create outcomes that may have been generated by the hosting of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in regional Victoria. The $3 million received by Council is under the Hub Cities Stream 1 Council Support Package.
