Council to establish Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton User Group
Posted on
Wednesday 17th of December, 2025,
Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise the formation of the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton User Group. The formation was approved at Tuesday’s December Council Meeting following the decision to dissolve the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton Advisory Committee.
The Advisory Committee had been established for many years, providing strategic advice to Council on the ongoing development, management, and performance of the Australian Botanic Gardens in Shepparton.
More recently the Advisory Committee has experienced a steady decline in both attendance and overall engagement. Despite efforts to encourage involvement, the committee’s ability to function effectively and fulfill its purpose has been significantly impacted.
In response to this, Council has now formed the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton User Group. The user group model offers a less formal and more inclusive structure of governance. The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton User Group will have greater flexibility to continue facilitating ongoing community input and engagement.
Contributions from the User Group can be made on an ad hoc basis in response to urgent issues, or during quarterly informal catchups.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, thanked outgoing and past members of the Advisory Committee.
“Thank you to all previous Committee members who have played a key role in guiding operational priorities, supporting community engagement, and contributing to the long-term vision for the Gardens,” he said.
Outgoing Advisory Committee Chair, Councillor Anthony Brophy, emphasised the importance of community involvement.
“The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton remains a valued community asset, serving a range of users and interests. Council understands the importance of the site, and we want the community to shape the future prosperity of the area.”
