Greater Shepparton City Council has endorsed the Draft Road Management Plan 2025 (RMP) to be released for public consultation, inviting community input from now until Friday 23 May 2025.
The RMP is a key strategic document outlining how Council manages the maintenance, inspection, and repair of public roads and associated roadside assets under its responsibility. It sets out clear standards for inspection intervals, response times, and maintenance practices, and ensures Council meets its obligations under the Road Management Act 2004 and Road Management (General) Regulations 2016.
The Plan has been updated using a new template developed by the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV), designed to improve consistency in how councils approach road management. While Council has retained the ability to determine its own standards within the template, the change ensures alignment with best practice and strengthens Council’s ability to meet its duty of care to all road users.
Minor updates have been made to the existing plan, including formatting improvements, clarification of roles and responsibilities, and alignment with MAV’s benchmarked recommendations.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said maintaining a safe and reliable road network is essential for both urban and rural communities throughout Greater Shepparton.
“This updated Road Management Plan ensures we have a consistent, transparent and evidence-based approach to inspecting and repairing our roads, and it gives the public a clear understanding of the service levels they can expect,” he said.
The consultation process will run for 28 days and gives the community the opportunity to provide feedback before the final Road Management Plan is presented to Council for adoption at the June 2025 Council Meeting.
The Draft Road Management Plan is available to read and provide feedback on the Shaping Greater Shepp website.
Submissions can also be made in writing by sending an email to council@shepparton.vic.gov.au
