The deliberate burning of these bins is disappointing and unacceptable. Public facilities are provided for the benefit of everyone in the community, and acts of vandalism not only damage valuable infrastructure but also create unnecessary costs for ratepayers.
The damaged bins will need to be replaced, resulting in costs that could otherwise be allocated towards community services, facilities, and improvements across the municipality.
Council’s Director Infrastructure, Aidin Montazami said the incident was a reminder that community assets belong to everyone and should be treated with respect.
"It is extremely disappointing to see public property deliberately damaged in this way. These bins are provided for the benefit of residents and visitors who enjoy our beautiful lake precinct,” he said.
"When vandalism occurs, it is our entire community that pays the price. Repairs and replacements are funded through rates, meaning money that could be spent on other community priorities must instead be directed towards fixing preventable damage."
Council is committed to maintaining safe, clean and welcoming public spaces and will undertake repairs to ensure the area remains accessible and enjoyable for all.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to take pride in shared community spaces and report any instances of vandalism or suspicious behaviour to the appropriate authorities.
