Greater Shepparton City Council in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and GV Health, is launching two mobile information units to go out into the community to directly provide key information regarding COVID-19 restrictions, requirements and how to keep yourself safe and well during the pandemic.
The mobile information units will be visiting high traffic areas across the Greater Shepparton region, including the regional towns, to ensure that our community can be directly provided with important COVID-19 information and advice.
This initiative aims to complement the education of and communication with our community that has been consistently undertaken by GV Health and Council since the onset of the pandemic.
“These mobile information units provide yet another avenue for our diverse community to have access to critical COVID-19 information that will assist with keeping them, their family and friends and the broader community safe,” explains Greater Shepparton City Council CEO Peter Harriott.
“The units will be manned by members of our COVID-19 pandemic team who are well versed in COVID-19 information, but what they don’t know they will direct people to where they can find out the information they are needing.”
The mobile units will be hitting the streets as of Thursday October 15, and will be armed with critical information provided by DHHS and other local support services.
"We are working closely with the Greater Shepparton City Council and GV Health,” explains Jeroen Weimar, Deputy Secretary, Community Engagement & Testing - Department of Health and Human Services.
“The mobile units are an important tool to ensure that residents of the Greater Shepparton region have access to the latest information about COVID-19. The coronavirus pandemic is a unique health challenge across the world, and working together is the best way to defeat COVID-19. We thank the people of Greater Shepparton for their incredible response to getting tested. Testing is a vital tool along with the ways we know to fight COVID-19; washing your hands regularly, wearing a face mask when you leave home, coughing and sneezing into your elbow, and keeping at least 1.5 metres from others.”
The mobile unit team will be providing information utilising COVIDSafe practices, to continue to ensure that our community’s safety is paramount.
“To ensure that all of our community have access to this vital information we are currently looking at translation services and providing information in simple terms to best to engage members of our community in COVID conversations,” Mr Harriott said.
“We encourage our community to take advantage of this information service, with any conversations remaining impartial and confidential. If members of the community still have question after receiving information from the mobile units, they are encourage to ring the DHHS hotline on 1800 675 398.”
