Greater Shepparton City Council is supporting the shift to low and zero emission vehicles by providing dedicated fast charging bays in Shepparton and Mooroopna CBD.
Four fast charging bays have been installed at two locations:
The Shepparton charging bay is available for use from Monday 4 October 2021 and Mooroopna will be completed shortly. The charging bays will be easily identifiable with distinctive line markings and signage. There will be a 90 minute parking time limit to minimise all day use. The 50kW fast charging bays can only be used by electric vehicles and they must be charging at the time of parking. Petrol and diesel vehicles cannot park in EV bays, inspectors will increase patrols at these locations to assist fossil-fuel motorists in understanding correct usage. EV drivers will pay 40c/kw for the electricity they use within their time limit, payment will be paid through the Evie Charging app.
Greater Shepparton City Council want to encourage the uptake in using electric vehicles and welcome more EV drivers to the region, once Victorian COVID-19 restrictions ease further. The charging bays will encourage visitors to stop and spend some additional time within the region including new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) which has four charging bays installed.
Installing the dedicated EV parking bays within the CBD is assisting the region in taking a positive step for our climate in shifting to low and zero emission vehicles. The bays are a further commitment from Council on making the changes needed for our climate, having already introduced EVs into passenger fleet with dedicated charging bays, demonstrating Council’s commitment to the 2030 zero emission target.
Belstack Strawberry Farm in Kialla West have installed a 7kw Type 2 charger after being awarded $4544.75 from Councils Stage 2 COVID-19 recovery package, Visitor Economy Recovery Grant. The charger bays are available during business 10am-5pm, seven days a week, between October and May.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said “A number of measures have been implemented within Council to reduce energy use, including introducing four electric vehicles to our fleet, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. Installing additional EV charging bays encourages our community to adopt electric vehicles since these are readily available, it also supports our growing commitment to working towards a zero carbon community.”
“The EV charging bays are located within the popular precents of Greater Shepparton, welcoming visitors to come and enjoy our region with the added benefit of topping up their electric vehicle, providing a positive impact to our economy,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
