Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to see the Empowering Communities Project underway in the region, with eight community projects receiving their share of $500,000 in funding.
The funding comes from the Victorian Government’s Building Safer Communities Program which was launched in November 2020, comprising of four streams of grant funding to support innovative, evidence-based approaches to address perceptions of safety and improve community safety outcomes. Empowering Communities Grants were offered during the third stream and Council was successful in receiving $700,000 to deliver the project locally.
A total of $500,000 of this funding is being invested directly back into community identified, led and supported projects focused on improving community safety outcomes. A total of eight local projects received a share of this funding which was distributed through a community grants program. The funding was noted at Tuesday’s August Council Meeting and endorsed by the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
The projects will be officially launched at a morning tea today for grant recipients, Councillors, stakeholder groups and government representatives to connect and celebrate the launch of the eight individual projects. Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated the successful grant recipients and thanked them for their work to improve community safety across the municipality.
“Council is grateful to receive this significant amount of funding from the Victorian Government to support important projects which help improve perceptions of safety and safety outcomes for our community. We look forward to seeing these applicants put this funding to good use and we will track their progress and success over the coming months,” he said.
The projects funded under the Empowering Communities Project commenced in July this year and will concluded in June 2024. Details of the eight successful applicants are included below.
