Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, is excited to invite residents and visitors to the region’s annual Heritage Open Days on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November 2024.
In Summary
This unique event opens the doors to over 40 historic sites across the Goulburn Valley, giving guests rare access to some of Greater Shepparton’s most iconic homesteads, hotels, halls, and churches, along with sites of cultural significance that showcase the area’s rich and diverse heritage.
The event offers a variety of ways for attendees to explore Greater Shepparton’s heritage locations:
Greater Shepparton’s Heritage Open Days 2024 is free of charge and includes access to museums and collections managed by local historical societies, which would typically require an entrance fee. This is an invaluable opportunity to witness both familiar sites brought to life through captivating stories and lesser-known venues, opening their doors to the public for the first time.
Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, encouraged the community to make the most of this unique event and learn about Greater Shepparton’s history.
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of this special event and explore the many iconic and historically significant sites across Greater Shepparton,” she said.
“Our region is home to a wealth of cultural heritage, and these open days provide a rare opportunity to experience the stories, architecture, and unique charm of these places up close.”
With an extensive list of sites to explore, planning is essential. The municipality’s large area means getting from one place to another will take time. We recommend careful planning to maximise your Heritage Open Days experience. Be sure to wear comfortable footwear and bring water, sun protection, and to exercise caution when visiting sites.
Some locations and activities require bookings. Reserve your spot by following the booking links provided on this page, or call 5832 9730. Ensure to check each listing for specific booking requirements.
Families are welcome, though children must remain under adult supervision at all times. We kindly ask visitors to respect each property, understanding the generosity of owners who are opening their doors for this event. For further information, please call Council on 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au
