Greater Shepparton City Council is calling on local artists and creators from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations artists, to submit an expression of interest for the 2025 Cultural Diversity Week Art Exhibition.
In Summary
Cultural Diversity Week, running from 17 to 23 March 2025, is an annual celebration that highlights the vibrant cultures, languages, and traditions that contribute to Greater Shepparton’s rich community. As part of the festivities, an art exhibition will be held at the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre from 17 March until 18 April 2025, with a special launch event on Monday 17 March 2025 from 10am to 12pm.
Mayor Councillor Shane Sali encouraged local artists to take part, highlighting the importance of multiculturalism in the Greater Shepparton community.
“Our community is home to people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, and Cultural Diversity Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate this diversity,” he said.
“The art exhibition allows us to showcase the incredible talent within our region while also fostering understanding and appreciation of different cultures.”
Expressions of interest are open until 28 February 2025. Artists are invited to submit their works, which will be displayed at the exhibition throughout the month.
Community members will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork between 17 March and 18 April 2025, either online or in person. The artwork with the most votes will receive gift cards to recognise their talent and contribution as follows:
One lucky voter will also have the chance to win a $100 prize.
The launch event will feature guest speaker Doctor Francis Acquah AM, alongside captivating cultural performances, including a traditional Filipino dance and a drum performance by the Shepparton Malayalee Association (SHEMA).
