Council is working to ensure that household waste from flood affected homes throughout the region is able to be disposed of easily and safely.
Greater Shepparton City Council is coordinating a FREE service with Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) for removal of waste from flood impacted homes.PLEASE NOTE: DRA's mission in Greater Shepparton has now concluded. Flooding can cause sewage to overflow inside your home, or gas or electricity supplies may be damaged. The structural integrity of your home may also be affected. Flooding can cause hazardous mould growth which must be cleaned up before moving back into your home.
Over the coming weeks Council's Environmental Health officers and Building officers will be visiting properties that have been flood damaged to identify and provide advice on health and building related matters, such as checking septic tank systems, mould and effective clean up, and any structural concerns.
Those houses identified as flood damaged are eligible for assistance from Disaster Relief Australia. DRA can assist in the removal of flood damaged home contents such as furniture, appliances and personal items as well as removal of carpets and pressure washing. DRA is unable to remove asbestos.The DRA clean up moves flood damaged items from house to kerb. This will coordinate with a kerbside flood waste collection team who will remove the flood damaged items from the kerbside to waste disposal.Council is working to ensure that household waste from flood affected homes throughout the region is able to be disposed of easily and safely. There are seven collection zones throughout Greater Shepparton, with each zone being assigned a day of the week for collections for a period of four weeks.
This will allow residents to prepare and means there will be multiple opportunities for households to have their waste collected over this time.
Scheduled collections in each zone will commence from Wednesday 2 November 2022 and conclude Wednesday 30 November 2022.
