Council's mowing team is committed to managing over 611 hectares of green spaces across the municipality, including popular areas such as the Queens Gardens and Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton.
High-use parks receive weekly mowing to provide safe and attractive environments for community gatherings, family activities and public events. Other parks are maintained on a carefully coordinated schedule based on usage levels, ensuring all public green spaces receive the attention they need to stay at their best.
The department’s slashing work is equally as important, playing an essential role in fire prevention, biodiversity conservation and road safety. The team oversees a vast network of roadsides and open spaces, completing over 764 kilometres of roadside slashing on a sixteen-week cycle. Additional slashing at key town entry points and intersections helps to maintain clear visibility for drivers, making roads safer for all who travel through Greater Shepparton.
Council's Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa, highlighted the importance of these efforts.
“Fire prevention, road safety and biodiversity are major priorities. Our team's work in slashing and maintaining roadsides is critical to ensuring safe, accessible roads and open spaces that benefit the whole community,” he said.
In addition to mowing and slashing, the department also takes pride in keeping public amenities clean and well-maintained. The team is responsible for routine cleaning of public toilets, barbecues, picnic areas, and other infrastructure, as well as graffiti removal, to ensure all public spaces remain tidy, accessible and welcoming.
High-traffic facilities are serviced regularly, while other locations are attended to as needed, helping to make Greater Shepparton a pleasant and inviting place for everyone.
"Our Parks, Sport, and Recreation team's commitment to cleanliness and maintenance keeps our public spaces inviting and well cared for," Mr. Randhawa said.
"These efforts make a significant impact on the quality of life for our residents and visitors."
Council encourages residents to contact Customer Service with any maintenance needs or concerns. Community feedback is invaluable in helping Council keep Greater Shepparton's parks and public spaces clean, safe and enjoyable for all.
