The committee forms part of the implementation of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Youth Strategy and Action Plan 2019-23, which aims to achieve priorities relating to the aspirations of local young people.
Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said the committee was a new initiative and one that Council was very excited to see come to life.
“The purpose of the Greater Shepparton Youth Committee is to provide a platform for diverse and passionate young people to come together, to further develop their skills and to actively get involved in helping shape and take action on priorities that matter to them,” she said.
Anyone aged between 12 and 25 years, who studies, lives or works in Greater Shepparton, is encouraged to apply for the committee.
Applicants will be asked to address several questions including what their interests are and what they like most about Greater Shepparton.
The successful applicants will need to be available for a four hour time commitment each month.
Cr O’Keeffe encouraged young locals to get creative with their applications, with entries closing on Wednesday, 30 June.
“Be as creative as you like with your responses to each of the questions, whether it is a video, song or artwork, we want to learn about the applicants and what they enjoy,” she said.
