Works have commenced on the Maude Street Mall redevelopment project. The redevelopment will be completed in four stages, with expected completion of the entire project by late 2022.
Contractors are currently undertaking early works demolition and utility connections.
Stage 1 located on the west side of the mall at the Fraser Street entrance is currently under construction. The majority of works will be completed by the end of 2021 with playground equipment to be installed early next year
Greater Shepparton City Council has sought to reduce disruption to shoppers and traders during the works as far as practicable, particularly in the lead up to Christmas. Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said access to stores in the Maude Street Mall will be maintained throughout the construction period and parking in the surrounding areas will not be affected.
“Solid plywood hoardings will be erected around each stage of the works to ensure the safety of the public and to reduce dust and noise in the area,” he said.
The new mall design includes the addition of low speed, one-way traffic with on-street parking and is estimated to cost $17.15M. The Maude Street Mall redevelopment is jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and Council contributions.
Mr Hoare said Council is excited to see redevelopment works get underway on the much-anticipated project.
“The completed mall redevelopment will be a major asset to the community, providing a safe and modern space to meet and support our local businesses,” he said.
