At its June Council Meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council endorsed the appointment of seven community representatives to the Shepparton Showgrounds Advisory Committee, with the new two-year term to commence on 1 July 2025.
In Summary
The Advisory Committee plays a vital role in supporting the future direction and day-to-day use of the Shepparton Showgrounds, offering community-based advice on matters including usage conditions, capital works, and strategic planning.
Following a recent call for expressions of interest, Council received seven applications from local residents with strong links to the facility. All applicants were deemed suitable and have now been formally appointed to the Committee. The successful appointees are:
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated the appointees and welcomed the mix of returning and new voices to the Committee.
“We are fortunate to have such passionate community members step forward to help shape the future of the Shepparton Showgrounds,” he said.
“The Committee plays an important role in ensuring this well-used facility continues to evolve in line with community expectations, and these appointments reflect the depth of experience and interest we have in our region. I would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the retiring members, Callum Phillips and Sue Trevaskis, for their valued contributions over recent years.”
Councillor Keiron Eddy, Council representative on the Advisory Committee, also welcomed the appointments.
“The Shepparton Showgrounds is one of our city’s most important community assets, and it is encouraging to see such a high calibre of local people putting their hands up to be involved,” he said.
“I am looking forward to working alongside the new Committee as we continue to improve and activate the site for the benefit of our whole community.”
The Advisory Committee provides an important link between Council, user groups and the broader community. It meets quarterly and advises on a range of priorities, including improvements to functionality, sustainability, and amenity of the site.
