The Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee acts as an advocate for all heritage matters facing Greater Shepparton, while advising Council on any changes and updates.
Council is seeking nominations from individuals interested in joining the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee. The nomination period to join the Committee has been extended to Friday, 16 July 2021.
Members of the community are encouraged to nominate if they:
The Terms of Reference allow for up to six community representatives unaffiliated with historical groups or societies for a two-year term, commencing in August 2021 and concluding in August 2023.
Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe encouraged people with an interest in heritage issues across Greater Shepparton to apply.
“I encourage Greater Shepparton residents with an interest in the region’s heritage to put their hands up for one of the community representative positions,” she said.
“It is a fantastic opportunity and involves having a say in the planning and delivery of heritage-related community events and programs.”
Chairperson of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, Marjorie Earl, said the Committee had spent almost a decade advising Council on a wide-range of heritage issues.
“The Committee has developed an extensive schedule of community events and programs, including the Cultural Heritage Awards, the Bruce Wilson Memorial Heritage Lecture, the Heritage Grants Program, and the Heritage Open Days which celebrate, promote and save our heritage,” she said.
“The Committee also provides invaluable input into various Council projects. Community representatives play a very important role in supporting the Committee and setting its work program.”
Committee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month or at other times as determined by members.
Nomination forms can be lodged electronically or by hard copy and are available on Council’s website www.greatershepparton.com.au or in the foyer of Greater Shepparton City Council’s offices at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.
