Council were pleased to note the awarding of more than $10,000 in funding for Round Two of the 2021/2022 Minor and Major Event Grants Program at the April Council Meeting.
Eight local community groups were successful in their applications, which saw a total of $10,940 awarded to support and facilitate events that contribute positively to the community, increase visitation and stimulate the local economy.
Each financial year Council provides two rounds of the grants program which offers two streams of funding, for Minor Events to receive up to $2,000 and Major Events to receive up to $5,000. Round Two of the 2021/2022 program saw a range of community groups successfully apply, including several sporting clubs, a volunteer service organisation and a local market.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe thanked each of the groups who applied.
“There are so many fantastic events happening in our region and Council is very supportive of providing grant opportunities to event facilitators to help grow and diversify our region’s Major Events Calendar,” she said.
“Having more major events in our region will lead to increased visitation, length of stay and economic yield, making our region a more attractive place to live, work and invest.
“Council understands the hard work that goes on behind the scenes from committees and working groups to make these events happen, so we are very pleased to be able to offer these grants.”
Each application was assessed against criteria including economic impact, capacity to attract visitation, social benefit, environmental impact and the event budget. Information sessions are hosted by Council each year to inform and educate locals about the funding opportunities that are available.
