Greater Shepparton City Council is now seeking expressions of interest from enthusiastic and committed community members to join the Shepparton Australia Day Volunteer Committee, with expressions of interest closing on 7 September 2020.
The positions will run for a two-year term through 2021 and 2022, and include conversing during the summer months to plan the Shepparton Australia Day celebrations. Planning for the event is likely to be different this year, with COVID-19 restrictions to be monitored and adhered to.
The Shepparton Australia Day event objectives are to celebrate the achievements of our community through the Australia Day Awards, welcome new Australians with a Citizenship Ceremony and provide a free inclusive family friendly event that celebrates the diversity of our community.
“The Australia Day celebration in Shepparton has brought people from right around the region together to celebrate the many great things our region is famous for. What this will look like early next year is an unknown at this stage, however, it is important that community achievements are acknowledged and celebrated in an appropriate way,” Mayor Cr Seema Abdullah said.
“The committee is made up of community members who are passionate, enthusiastic and committed to social inclusion. If you are community focused, you are invited to register your interest. For those interested in joining the committee, event management experience is an advantage but not essential.”
