Shepparton Animal Shelter joins Mission Adoptable

Wednesday 18th of February, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to announce the Shepparton Animal Shelter is joining forces with animal shelters across Victoria for a special pet adoption event: Mission Adoptable.
In Summary
The Shepparton Animal Shelter will hold a two-day adoption event on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 February from 10am to 2pm, with reduced adoption fees of $50 for all dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.
The event encourages families and individuals to adopt animals in need of homes, with all adopted pets desexed, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.
Community members are encouraged to view available pets online and complete the adoption questionnaire in advance to assist the process on the day.
The initiative aims to help find suitable homes for shelter animals while creating space for the Shelter to continue caring for animals in need.
On Friday 20 and Saturday 21 February from 10am to 2pm, all dogs, puppies, cats and kittens will have a reduced adoption fee of just $50. Families and individuals are encouraged to visit the Shepparton Animal Shelter at 125 Wanganui Road, Shepparton, and take advantage of this opportunity to welcome a new family member into their home.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged community members to support the Shelter.
“The Shepparton Animal Shelter does a fantastic job caring for animals in need. They often need support to find homes for these animals, and this is a fantastic opportunity to assist,” he said.
“If you’re not in a position to adopt, I encourage community members to show their support by spreading the word and help the Shelter find suitable homes for the pets available for adoption as part of Mission Adoptable.”
Council’s Manager Environment, Sharon Terry, invited community members looking to add a new member to the family to attend the two-day event.
“Cats and dogs make wonderful companions. It is important to remember that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment requiring care and responsibility,” she said.
“Adopting not only changes the life of the dog or cat you adopt, it also helps the Shelter to have more space to receive animals in need.”
Animal Shelter staff encourage people planning to attend on the day to check out the available pets online on Council’s website and complete the online pet adoption questionnaire beforehand to save time on arrival.
All pets available for adoption as part of Mission Adoptable will be desexed, vaccinated and microchipped, offering adopters significant upfront savings and peace of mind.
Don’t forget to bring a carrier or a lead to take your new furry friend home, or you can purchase one from the Shelter on the day.
