Works on the Shepparton BMX Club Multi-Use Events Pavilion are well underway, with the upgrade capitalising on local jobs and subcontractors to bring the game changing development to life.
In Summary
The new two storey pavilion is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, ahead of Greater Shepparton City Council hosting the 2025 AusCycling BMX National Series – Round 1 and 2 event on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April. The pavilion is being constructed by local company Moretto Building Pty Ltd, with the build utilising local workers and subcontractors to ensure the region benefits during, and post its construction.
The pavilion, funded through the Victorian Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, will provide the Shepparton BMX Club with accessible and all gender toilets, meeting space, storage, first aid room, catering facilities, a flexible event space, and an outdoor undercover viewing area.
“The Shepparton BMX Club Multi-Use Events Pavilion will be a game changer for sport in our region. It will ensure we are ready and able to host world class BMX events, attracting riders and spectators not just nationally, but internationally as well,” Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said.
“Any major project like this that can capitalise on local trades and jobs is a huge win for the region’s economy.”
Moretto Building has engaged 22 businesses during the pavilion construction, with a total of 28 full time people employed on the project build. Several of the local businesses engaged also manufactured the building products locally.
The pavilion is part of a larger suite of works including enhancements to the BMX track and start hills, paving the way for more exciting world class racing, along with upgrades to the lighting at the Shepparton Cycling Velodrome. These lights are already paying major dividends for the region, with the velodrome hosting a successful Christmas Track Cycling Carnival in December 2024.
With the works at the multi-use events pavilion nearing completion, the facilities will be put to good use during the AusCycling National Series BMX event. The event will be the first at the upgraded Shepparton BMX Track, showcasing the country’s top BMX racers for Round 1 and 2 of the National Series. The series attracts both professional and amateur riders, offering a platform to delve into high-speed BMX action and ultimately determine the country's best.
“This game changing infrastructure investment will be a major catalyst to host more events like the AusCycling National Series, with a pipeline of major state, national and international events to be targeted to help increase visitation, stimulate local business and promote the region as a major sporting event destination,” Cr Sali said.
