Speed reductions to be introduced on several roads in Shepparton South East

Poplar Avenue (Streeton Drive to 200m east of Doyles Road) will reduce from 80 km/h to 60 km/h, Feiglin Road (Poplar Avenue to Channel Road) from 100 km/h to 50 km/h, and Channel Road (Da Vinci Drive to Orrvale Road) from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.
The updated speed limits align with Victoria’s Speed Zoning Technical Guidelines and aim to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists as development continues in Shepparton South East.

Sections of Poplar Avenue, Feiglin Road and Channel Road will see speed limit reductions beginning the week of Monday 23 March 2026, with the changes informed by extensive assessments of the traffic flow, pedestrian and cyclist activity in these areas.

Poplar Avenue (Streeton Drive to 200m east of Doyles Road)

The speed limit will be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h to reflect increasing pedestrian activity as the area develops. The lower limit improves safety for residents entering or exiting properties, reduces crash risk, and supports safer walking and cycling.

Feiglin Road (Poplar Avenue to Channel Road)

The speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h to 50 km/h following increased housing density and traffic volumes. With the area now classified as residential, the lower speed will reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes and create a safer environment for families, walkers, cyclists, and local traffic.

Channel Road (Da Vinci Drive to Orrvale Road)

The speed limit will be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h to align with expected growth under the Shepparton South East Precinct Structure Plan. The lower limit ensures consistency with Speed Zoning Guidelines and supports the safe advancement of the road network as development progresses.

The recommendations for speed reductions were informed by traffic engineering assessments, a review of land‑use changes and development patterns, consideration of pedestrian and cyclist activity, alignment with the Speed Zoning Technical Guidelines, analysis of crash history where applicable, and anticipated future growth and access needs.

Council’s Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa, said Council regularly assesses roads to ensure optimal safety for all road users.

“These speed limit changes will help ensure our local road network remains safe and suitable as Shepparton South East continues to grow,” he said.

“Our priority is improving safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists while ensuring the road network continues to serve the community effectively.”

The updated limits align with Victoria’s Speed Zoning Technical Guidelines, which require lower limits in areas experiencing growth, higher pedestrian activity, or evolving residential use.
