A tiny town full of character and charm, Murchison was the perfect representative of Shepparton & Goulburn Valley, a region of unique connected townships, for the 2023 Tiny Tourism Town awards.
With a rich history and expansive natural surrounds, Murchison is a hidden gem that invites visitors to take time out, connect and make memories.
Greater Shepparton City Council chose to nominate Murchison for the 2023 Victorian Tiny Tourism Town award in recognition of the outstanding community response during the October 2022 flood event, and to aid with flood recovery by supporting the region’s visitor economy. Murchison not only was the perfect representative for the awards, but also made the region very proud when selected as a finalist.
The winners for the 2023 Victoria’s Tiny Tourism Town awards have been announced, with the top honours going to Aireys Inlet receiving gold, Red Hill South silver and Jamieson bronze. Small coastal town Aireys Inlet was awarded with the opportunity to represent Victoria at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated the winning destinations and acknowledged Murchison’s tourism industry and community for their amazing efforts in welcoming visitors and promoting their town.
“We loved seeing the spirit of the community flourish after Murchison became a finalist, people excited about the awards, voting, connecting with local businesses, and promoting the town with friends and relatives,” he said.
“These awards are a great opportunity to showcase the wonderful offerings in the region, including Australia’s largest cut flower operation Avonlea Flowers and Murchison Wines, who were both heavily impacted by the October floods, as well as the history of the Murchison Meteorite, the Murchison Bakery and Rail Trail.”
“We congratulate the winning towns and we are sure that they will do a wonderful job representing Victoria at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards.”
The Tiny Town Tourism awards were assessed around a two-day, one-night itinerary encouraging visitors to relax, unwind and immerse themselves in the rich history and natural surrounds that Murchison has to offer.
The full itinerary can be found at the Shepparton & Goulburn Valley website, along with an array of other experiences visitors and locals can enjoy within our remarkable region.
