Two Aquamoves staff members, Leanne Houkes-Wilson and Branden Wilson, are heading to the Australian Olympic Swim Team Trials.

In Summary

  • Two Aquamoves staff members, Branden Wilson and Leanne Houkes-Wilson, will participate in the Australian Olympic Swim Team Trials from 10 June to 15 June 2024, in Brisbane.
  • Branden Wilson qualified for the 100m Breaststroke at the National Swim Championships, aiming for a spot on the 2024 Olympic Swim Team.
  • Leanne Houkes-Wilson, head coach of Shepparton Swimming Club, will accompany Branden and has also successfully coached junior swimmers to the Australian Junior Swimming Championships.
  • The Greater Shepparton community is encouraged to support Branden and Leanne by watching the trials live on the Win Network’s 9HD and 9NOW, as they represent the region on the national stage.

Branden qualified for the 100m Breaststroke event at this year's National Swim Championships. As a rising star in swimming, Branden will compete against top national swimmers aiming for a spot on the 2024 Olympic Swim Team.

The 2024 Australian Olympic Swimming Trials will take place at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from Monday 10 June to Saturday 15 June. These trials are expected to be the most competitive in history, with Australia's best swimmers vying for a place on the elite Dolphins squad, admired worldwide.

Branden will be accompanied by his coach, Leanne Houkes-Wilson, head coach of the Shepparton Swimming Club. Leanne has had a stellar year, not only keeping Branden focused but also helping two junior swimmers qualify for the 2024 Australian Junior Swimming Championships. These young athletes achieved personal bests at the Gold Coast event in April.

In addition to Branden's achievements, Aquamoves members Madison Heywood and Kiera Shaw also shone at the 2024 Australian Junior Swimming Championships in April. Madi competed in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events, while Kiera competed in the 100m and 200m backstroke events. We congratulate them on their outstanding efforts and the determination they showed.

After the Olympic trials, Leanne will represent the Greater Shepparton District as the 13-19 girls' coach of the Victorian Secondary School Swimming Team. Three swimmers from the Shepparton Swimming Club will join her on the Vic State Schools' Swimming Squad.

At the Australian Open Championships in April, Branden excelled in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events, setting personal bests in all. Notably, he broke 30 seconds in the 50m breaststroke with a new PB of 29.47 seconds. To qualify for the Olympic trials, Branden swam a new PB of 1:05.30 in the 100m breaststroke, surpassing the qualifying time.

Aquamoves extends best wishes to Branden and Leanne for the upcoming trials. We encourage everyone to support our State and National champions by watching the National Olympic Swimming Trials live on the Win Network’s 9HD and 9NOW. The 2024 Trials are the premier domestic swimming event and the sole selection meet for the Dolphins Swimming Team to compete in Paris.
