Commuters travelling from Mooroopna to Shepparton are reminded that Fryers Street will be closed from 6.00am tomorrow Wednesday 16 November from the Midland Highway traffic lights to Welsford Street.
People travelling from Mooroopna to Shepparton will detour via High Street. Please allow up to an extra 20 minutes for your commute. Council officers will continue to monitor the traffic flow on a daily basis to ensure minimising traffic disruptions.
On Monday 14 November delays were caused by several factors including unexpected road repairs on Wyndham Street and Nixon Street which necessitated a one lane closure heading north as well as Watt Road being closed.
Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa said Watt Road is closed due to flooding. “We know that the back road to Kialla is a popular alternative for people travelling between Mooroopna and Shepparton and unfortunately it is unknown when the flood waters will recede.”
“Once the flood waters have receded then assessments of the structural integrity of Watt Road Bridge and Toolamba Bridge can be carried out. Until this time the road will remain closed to ensure the community’s safety.”
Mr Randhawa said the traffic lights have been synchronised to allow a better flow of traffic and detours will be in place for the duration of the works. “Fencing has been installed along Welsford and Fryers Street to ensure pedestrian safety but businesses are still accessible including the Council offices in Welsford Street.”
“Council sincerely apologises for the disruption that occurred on Monday and will be looking at ways to minimise future inconvenience during the intersection upgrade.”
