Young people between the ages of 12-25 who would like to be involved in leadership, events management, positive change, volunteering and teamwork are encouraged to join the Word and Mouth youth committee before the closing date of 9.00am on 25 November.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Word and Mouth is looking for mature young people who are keen to improve where they live for other young people as well as themselves. Word and Mouth’s young people volunteer their time once a week, usually for around two hours, and put on up to eight local events each year, including musical, recreational, artistic and various other events to engage and benefit young people in Greater Shepparton.
Young people commit to join Word and Mouth for 12 months from January to December and have the potential to gain an enormous amount of experience across a broad range of duties. Over the year they will contribute between 150-200 hours to their community.
Project Officer at Word and Mouth, Jim Gow said this was the perfect opportunity for young people locally to be the change they want to see around Greater Shepparton.
“This can appeal to young people who are still in high school, having a gap year, or working or studying locally to engage with Word and Mouth and help shape their communities,” Mr Gow said.
“Word and Mouth provides for that stage between childhood and adulthood for young people who are looking for something to do and be involved in that is age appropriate,” he said.
“They have outgrown childhood, yet don’t quite qualify for adulthood. Word and Mouth exists for those who live in this space. We are able to put on eight events a year which provides entertainment and the chance to contribute to their community. Now is your chance to join like-minded young people.”
