Greater Shepparton Heritage Conservation Grants Program
Greater Shepparton City Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, offers a Heritage Conservation Grants Program to support the conservation of properties within the Heritage Overlay.
About the grants
Grants of up to $15,000 are available for projects which support the conservation of properties within the Heritage Overlay.
Council recognises the value of our heritage and the significant contribution it plays in enriching our daily lives. The Heritage Conservation Grants Program seeks to promote good conservation practice (maintenance, preservation, reconstruction or restoration) works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, whilst being respectful of the place’s significance.
Owners of properties in Greater Shepparton within a Heritage Overlay are encouraged to apply for grants to assist in the conservation of these places for future generations to appreciate.
The objective of this program is to provide funding for works undertaken to places of cultural heritage significance and assist in realising the following benefits:
- enhance, protect and conserve places and sites included in the Heritage Overlay
- provide financial and advisory assistance for the repair, maintenance, or enhancement of heritage sites included in the Heritage Overlay that have a community benefit
- promote cultural heritage conservation by providing financial assistance to those in the community who may otherwise not be able to afford to undertake conservation works
- strengthen and foster a sense of community identity and community ownership in the long-term conservation of local heritage sites
- increase public awareness and understanding of heritage places and sites in the municipality; and
- support owners of local heritage places.
For the 2024/2025 Financial Year there is a total funding pool of $80,000 available. Individual grants of up to $15,000 are available for funding on a 1:1 matching basis.

Frequently asked questions
Can we start the project before receiving confirmation that our application has been successful?
No, the commencement of the project must not take place prior to Council approving the applications at the Council Meeting. As per the guidelines, we will not fund projects retrospectively.
Can we make changes to the project that was described in the application?
No changes are to be made without discussion and approval from Council.
If you encounter any problems with delivering the exact project, you must contact Council immediately to discuss and not proceed with an alternative project without approval. If you proceed without approval, Council may seek for some or all of the funds to be repaid.
What if we need more time to complete the project?
If more time is required, please contact Council to advise why and provide a completion date. Remember you are unable to receive further funding until your current project is fully completed and acquitted.
We’ve completed the project works, what do we do now?
Once you have completed the works and have all the necessary receipts, you need to complete the online acquittal form. A Council staff member will then attend to inspect the finalised project.
If you have not received the link for the acquittal by the time you complete the project please contact the Sporting Clubs Officer.
