Street Party Information
Holding a Street Party is a great way to get to know your neighbours in a fun way where everyone can join in!
Busy and independent lifestyles often get in the way of getting to know your neighbours providing fewer chances to bump into people and have a friendly chat. Giving your neighbour a friendly wave or a simple "hello" is all it takes to make that that connection and help address issues around isolation, security and creating community.
Street parties are a great way to get to meet the people in your street who may have recently moved to your neighbourhood or simply to catch up with old friends.
Street Parties can be conducted to celebrate a particular day or event or can be held just for the fun of it! That is the best part of conducting a Street Party: what you do and how you do it is entirely up to you. It provides a great opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to mingle in a relaxed way. Your street or neighbourhood is one of the easiest places to get together with your neighbours and it is so close to home.
Greater Shepparton City Council encourages the concept of 'neighbourliness' and invites you to use our resources to connect and celebrate with your neighbourhood. We can also support you by providing information on how to hire the community BBQ, book public spaces together with advice on a range of other considerations when hosting an event.
Greater Shepparton City Council has put together a 'Step-by-Step Guide' to assist you in getting started offering suggestions as well as items for consideration. Council have also developed a 'Street Party Invitation' which is available for use by the Community.
Both of these documents are available below or by contacting the Community Strengthening Branch on 03 5832 9700.
