Greater Shepparton City Council was thrilled with the successful launch of the 2024 Community Leadership Program, held on 8 May 2024 at the Peter Copoulos Community Centre in Shepparton.
In Summary
The Community Leadership Program, funded by Council, has provided an accessible and respected program for emerging community leaders for 11 years. The workshops will help hone participants’ leadership skills and instil a sense of purpose and responsibility to serve their community with passion and dedication.
Facilitated by Shane Garner Consulting, the 2024 program is intended for existing and emerging leaders in the community who wish to develop and up-skill their leadership capacity. The Community Leadership Program is delivered from May through to August 2024, and is fully subscribed with 20 new participants.
The program comprises of a series of seven workshops, along with additional online mentoring and coaching sessions, culminating in a graduation event in August. The workshops encompass a range of topics including reflection, resilience and goal setting, understanding community and diversity, community leadership, communication preferences, public speaking and participant presentations.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, who completed the program in 2020, discussed the importance of strong local leadership for the community and some of his own valuable learnings from the program.
“It is always fantastic to see a strong interest in the Community Leadership Program. Greater Shepparton City Council is committed to providing accessible, grass roots, community leadership opportunities,” he said.
“Participants in this program will develop important leadership skills and gain valuable connections. The aim is to build the capacity of participants to be a catalyst for driving change in their community and this Community Leadership Program achieves this,” he said.
Council looks forward to following the participants along their leadership journey as they work towards their graduation in August 2024.
